When looking at the site, I found a very important piece of advice. It says you shouldn't change tenses. I tend to do this a lot and now that I know, I will be more careful about it. I also found some interesting material about how much truth to use in your memoir. It might be okay to exaggerate a little bit, but don't go over the top just to make yourself sound good. It's okay to add a little action isn't it? One more thing I learned was that there needs to be a theme in your writing. you can't just be all over the place or it isn't going to mean anything to any body.
this site is very encouraging if you feel like no one wants to hear about you

I learned that a memoir is a type of genre and that it is something remembered and that it varies with the author.
http://homeschoolblogawards.com/2008/09/homeschool-memoirs-5-my-favourite-things/
In a memior it is best to use first person because it makes sense because you're telling the story. It is also better to use the historical present than the narrative past. Tenses are very important not to change because you can easily lose the reader.
I also agree with aaron with the theme thinking. Writing all over the place really won't mean anything.
This is a site where there are memoirs that were passed down from parents to children. They're really interesting.

One thing i learned was that truth is important in you memoir. I agree with aaron it is ok to exaggerate a little bit but not to make yourself look good.
I also found that when writing a memoir you should use first person because it makes more sense.
And finally dont change the tenses because it could make it confusing if you do
http://www.amazon.com/Biographies-Memoirs-Books/b?ie=UTF8&node=2
the first thin i learned from this sight is that you don't have to stick to the truth throughout the story
another thing is that not to change tenses. i agree with becka that if you change tenses you may lose the reader
the last thing i learned was that memoirs dont lie in the genre of personal narrative
http://teacher.scholastic.com/writeit/memoir/
I learned that switching tenses in memoirs will losse your reader quickly, so it is best to stick iwth one tense the whole memoir. If you do this the reader will understand your memoir better. I also learned that when writing your memoir it's best to be honest, it just turns out better. I agree also with aron that you can exzaggerate to make the memoir more excited and entertaining to read but still keep truth in it. The last thing i learned is writing your memoir in first person is the best writing sytle because the memoir is mostly about you, and things that happened to you from your point of view.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000159161- this links to 2007's top ten memoirs.
a memoir is some thing that you tell about yourself but you dont have to stick to it throughout the essay or book
After reading the site i learned that that it's about the author and his life and it tells us detail about his life like theme ,place ,settings etc.
I agree with aaron because to add a little action for detail to make the reader of interested with the memoir.
heres a website that tells a little bit more about memoirs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoirs
One thing i have learned from visiting this site is, to use historical present instead of the narrative past when the material is my feelings and immediate thoughts at the time. So instead of acting like we have to go back in time, just BE back and time and explain your thoughts and feelings from tat exact moment. Another thing i learned was, to translate your thoughts through italics not quotes. Finally, i learned that you should not talk in general collection. Like as her example had said, "the flowering trees in Salt Lake City" but a single moment like she had said, "Lucy, the tri-colored cat, catching the mouse". You can go into great detail with it.
I agree with Jordan. The truth is everything. If you aren't telling the truth, then it's not really even about you. It's about the person you are trying to lie to be.
here is a link help write a memoir and what usually is pt in it!

I learned that Memoirs can be a lot more dark and descriptive than normal stories because the authors have lived through these experiences, so they know exactly how they felt when these things happened. I also learned that it's a genre of writing that is a lot smaller than a regular story because the moments are very specific. Lastly, I learned that that they're mostly told from first-person.
Here's a site if you want to see an example of a memoir.

When I was looking for memoirs on line I found several web sites like amazon.com scholastic.com and Barnes and Novel typing memoirs. Three things that I learn about the memoirs are first they are most of them are written by chronological order. The other thing related to chronological order is that mostly of the authors talk about their childhood. And the third thing I learn is that some memoirs have the climax almost at the end of the story.

A memoir is in narrative form, writen in first person, and is something from your childhood or a memory. It is a type of genre that is a non-fiction story, I agree with aaron with this part, which can be exaggerated but not too much. In a meoir you must explain or describe an event or object so the reader can understand more. Your personal meoir must be truthful and must stick with its theme that should be presented to the reader. You can not go all over the place skipping from story to story even though your still in the middle of one.
a site/page that I found on memoir(s) is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoirs
Hey!! This is Mandi Newell. When I saw the website I learned that anything that you write can become a memoir. As long as you have enough information and that its a type of genre. I also learned that a memoir is a story told in first person. You want to write it because you know it better than anyone elce. Then the last thing I learned is that you want to tell the truth in everything that you write, but not so much that your story is SUPER boring, but maybe just a little to keep the interest in the readers. So i'm agreeing with Aaron and Jordan Bargas (jbarga$$20)
If you go onto this website below, you can watch Stephenie Meyer talk about her books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclips and Breking Dawn)and how she wrote them. You may not be very interested in it, but I liked it because I'm reading her books right now. So here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnKl8UxpxWc
One of the common parts of a memoir that seems to be a big idea on this site and with the other bloggers is changing tenths. The author should NOT change tents in the middle of their memoir. I agree with everyone who blogged, that though that changing tenths in a memoir is bad
Something I found, that should be self evident, is that a memoir should be about the person who is writing the memoir. This is my idea because the def. of a memoir is, “a record of events written by a person having intimate knowledge of them and based on personal observation.” In other words, this is a true story about the person who is writing it.
One of the last questionable ideas in my mind is, does it have to be true, and I have decided, based on the info. on this page, that a memoir does not have to be true. I think that if a story is written very well based on a particular even in a real or imaginary peson, or object life, it could be a memoir.
For more information this is a site that I though was helpful.

From reading this I learned not to change tenses during the story.I agree with Becca that if you do you will loose the reader immidetely.
I also learned that when writing a memoir it is ok to exaggerate but when you exaggerate to much to make yourself look good the reader probably doesn't want to read it.
The last thing I learned is that when you write the memoir in 1st person it makes it easier to read.
here is a link to a site of a woman who helps you write your memoirs:
http://www.memoirsbyme.com/memoir-writing-tips.html
From looking at this site I learned that you most of the time if not always use 1st person.
I also learned that if you switch the tenses your going to lose the reader and it will be really hard to get him back. When writing a memouir it is ok to exaggerate but you cant go overboard with it or it isnt going to sound real
http://www.amazon.com/biographies-memouirs-books/b?ie=utf8node=2
Haha lil luke it's spelled 'tense' not 'tents.' We're not going camping here okay. Not hitting on your pride or anything. I agree with you and everyone else. Looks like everyone learned that it's a BAD IDEA, a NO NO, to change tenses in the middle of a story. It's very confusing, SO DON'T DO IT OKAY. Ok. :)
Woooo way to go aaron, definutly don't exaggerate your story to make yourself look better. Really good thing to know. But in memoirs, you really do have to exaggerate a lot, make up things that might have not really happened. You have to do that because you have to REALLY paint a picture in the reader's mind, make them think what you thing, see what you see, feel what you feel, etc.
Also, FIRST PERSON! Memoirs are about YOU, coming from YOU, so YOU need to tell the reader YOUR story. GOT THAT!??! Haha yeah I think you got that.
...
I found this site about memoirs and its pretty good, I actually read some of it and I LEARNED something from it. :O So you can too. GO TO IT!!!!!
p.s. mental heath survival guide is a really sick name :))

the thing i learned about memoirs was that they have to go in order.
* when you were born
* when your in your teens
* when your in your mid 20's and 30's
* when your like 50-60
* then when your about to die
* then when you have about one day left of your life, you write or have someone write for you a summary to some it all up. like when you had done the best thing in your life , or the worst thing you did in your life it doesn't matter.
But it doesn't have to go just like that its just a theory.
i learned that memoir or just like short story's. yo hav to edit and edit an edit and revise adn edit some more lol another thing i learned was that it can be written aboutaything.a feeling, a person, or an object!
*Bad Boy: A Memoir by Walter Dean Myers
Three things i learned about memiors from the site are, memiors are based on historical events, never to shitf tenses, and i also learned that using forst person to write a memior is very comman because your telling a story of your past.
here is a site that gives some more basic ideas on how to write a memoir
http://www.essortment.com/all/howtowritemem_rmtv.htm
I did not catch the tip on extending the truth. However i see why jordan would mention it. It sounds very reasonable.
I lerned that when telling a memoir it is helpful to use thoughts in italics. If you are writing about a place or object far in your past and can not describe it you can always use the internet for research. Mixed tnses are going back and forth between immadiacy and historical present.

here is a memoir site but i don't know what is on it because the jeffco firewall blocked it.
www.stumbleupon.com/tag/memoir/
One thing I learned is that you should speak in the "historical present"(quote: Memoirista.com)when you are writing a memoir.
Another is dont change tenses in the middle of a paragraph.
Finnally I learned that sometimes it is interesting to use "mixed tenses in a paragraph of a memoir.
http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&id=wKdzF56tcZgC&dq=memoir+sites&printsec=frontcover&source=web&ots=bf2_9oEUjb&sig=QecsWd4yF9bN3qO2tzzVHO4TmQQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=4&ct=result. (Sh@# what a mouthful!)
I also agree with aaron on how I found that how I shouldn't change tences because it would lose the reader very quickly. I slao seem to do that in some of my writing. I also learned not to lie about your memoir. Don't do this so that some of your facts cross over the lies because the reader won't know which one is a lie or a fact. The last thing i learned was to stay on topic and not to start on some other topic.
http://englishhistory.net/keats/brownkeats.html
I think that you should not lie in your memior because you dont want pepole thinking your something your not because your only fooling your self but i also agree with aaron it is ok to strch the truth but not brake it..
Fifty years ago, the world held its breath as a nation rose up against tyranny and terror. The event was the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, when a small nation dared to challenge their Soviet oppressors. Though a bloody defeat, the uprising revealed to the world the true nature of communism, which rules by terror.
this is a memoir selection i found =)
when i read this website thing i learned that it is really bad to change tenses through out the story, and that it is okay to spin a yarn away from the story, also they is told mainly in first person though they doesnt has to be. one of me favorite memoir is one about John Forbes Nash. He was a mathematician/economist who had to battle Schizophrenia throughout his life. he won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences,John von Neumann Theory Prize, and the Leroy P. Steele Prize! thats probably hard when you have invisible friends clouding youre every thought!! heres where there be good info on him
i learned that in a memoir the best way to go is to write it in first person... well you would kinda have to i guess sinse you are reflecting on a past event. Another thing was tenses and i dont think i spelled that right, but you can loose the reader if you use other tenses
some of the things i learned from this web site is that the momoirs that people write there is a general trend on what they write about. they are all things they remem ber clearly and are something that the author finds intrest in. also something that caught my attenchion is that people change tenses with in their wirting. that is deffinatly somthing that should be brought to more peoples attenchion. its important to keep an eye on this because not many people notice it wile writing so i think as part of the education we get we need to define this rule a little better. people spend more time in school learning not to say "me and melody" or something like that then we do on the more important stuff like this. i mean the writing still sounds ok but it would sound so much better if the schools focoused more on this.
as i was going threw google i found another grea momoir site. it seems to be good help when it comes to formatting the memoirs....
heres the link.

I found that you should not change tenses when you are writting a memoir. Also that u should stick to the truth but it si ok to lie a little if u need to
I think a memoir is something that you remember and thought about and wrote.
a menoir is a story that comes from the heart a real life account of what happened
I learned anything u write can become a memoir. i also learned that memoirs are very short stories that are very descriptive.

After looking at the site, I agree with Aaron about you shouldnt change tenses. I also tend to do this a lot and I am going to try to change this when i write. I do like to add some action or comedy just so that the reader doesn't fall asleep reading it due to boredom.
This site was pretty good:
